FAQs

Where do most people live/where should I live?

We have the housing guide but many students live in the South Park or Westover neighborhoods.

When should I register for classes and what should I take?

You should register for classes before the beginning of the semester which can be done at star.wvu.edu. You must be registered for 9 credit hours to be a full time student. If you are on a fellowship read the terms and conditions to see when you should register. See the graduate student handbook for course recommendations, but we recommend QM 1, Mathematical Physics, and some combination of colloquium, research credits, and if you’re interested in astronomy, the astronomy seminar.

What is there to do in Morgantown?

There are lots of outdoor activities such as hiking at Cooper’s Rock a 15-minute drive from Morgantown down I-68. There are also local events like Chocolate Lover’s Day in the Spring, the Jazz and Wine Festival and Hops on the Mon in the Fall and other local events. There are Arts Walks along High St. about once every month. As well as a Handcrafted Cooperative that hosts artists from the Morgantown area and is a great place to buy gifts. WVU football and basketball are also popular game-day events. Pittsburgh is also an hour and 30 minute drive. Washington D.C. is longer at about 3 hours. (add more things here.)
